Senior Pharmacist, POAC

The Role

By joining the friendly and enthusiastic team in the Pharmacy Department at Northampton General Hospital, this could be the change of environment and direction that you’re looking for. You will be working within the Division of Surgery, with specialities including general surgery, colorectal, vascular, urology, orthopaedics and head and neck surgery.

Contributing to patient care during their pre-operative journey, will be a very rewarding role as you get the opportunity to interact with patients on a one-to-one level. You will be responsible for reconciliation of their medication, managing their regular medication through their surgical procedure and planning their discharge to help meet the Trust agenda. This role extends to providing advice and educating medical and nursing staff, as well as contributing to the development and implementation of medicines management policies and procedures.

You will be working closely with our other POAC pharmacist as well as the other members of the Surgical Pharmacy team, including pharmacists and medicines management technicians. There are also opportunities to attend the acute pain and vascular ward rounds, and support other developments within the Surgery Division.

Key Requirements

An experienced Pharmacist, you may be currently working in a Hospital or Community Pharmacy, looking to broaden your experience, as well as specialise. An interest in Surgery will be essential, matched with the desire to develop in a clinical role. A strong team spirit and good communication skills will be required; you will be working in pre-admission clinic with the nursing and anaesthetic staff and on the wards with other members of the pharmacy team. You will be involved in supporting the Principal Pharmacist for Surgery with medicines governance issues in pre-admission clinic and throughout the Surgical Division.
