This is an opportunity to cut your teeth in management, learn to use data to inform service reconfiguration, to lead and influence change and get exceptionally well prepared for life as a senior doctor in the NHS, whatever role you finally choose. As well as in-house training in leadership and support from our very experienced QI team, you will have access to the Leadership Development Programme delivered jointly by the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management and the RCP Education Department.
The posts will be 60% clinical work and 40% protected time for leadership, development and management. They will build on the success of our experience as a pilot site for the Chief Registrar role.
Reporting directly to the Divisional Director, you will contribute towards the effective leadership and management, education and training, patient safety, quality and service improvement of medical activity/staff. We have 700+ beds, and a large new build presently under construction. This will give us the UK’s most up to date assessment unit and help change the way the hospital operates. You will have key roles in developing the working practices that will make this a success.
One of the posts will focus on supporting the management and change in service while the second will have a focus on the underpinning quality improvement.

The Trust’s commitment to engaging with junior doctors in this is shown in well- established schemes that include a ‘junior doctor safety board’ and ‘registrar management development course’. As well as making the improvements, we share our ideas. NGH had the highest number of presentations at The Patient Safety Congress in 2017.
Being a large DGH with a proud history, NGH has a good current reputation and ambitions for the future. We provide a number of sub-regional services to the whole county such as the acute renal service, hyper-acute stroke services, vascular surgery and oncology. With over 200 consultants, a similar number of trainees and approximately 60 medical undergraduates throughout the year, it provides comprehensive care and extensive training opportunities.
Northampton is a leafy affordable town in the East Midlands, with great sporting prowess in Rugby, Cricket, Motor Sports and Football and excellent and fast links to the rest of the UK and the rest of the world. NGH is one of the largest employers in the area.
Applications are invited from exceptional candidates in their penultimate year of training in a medical specialty that includes G(I)M, with full GMC registration and full MRCP diploma or equivalent. This is a fixed term role for a period of 12 months.
