The post is on Harbour ward & covers Marina Ward and the expectation would be for the successful candidate to work the full range of shifts as part of the established ward team.

As well as participating in a duty rota as a point of clinical advice and providing physical interventions to other inpatient areas, there may be an opportunity to rotate around the inpatient services when clinical need arises or for professional development.

The post holder will work to provide strategic/ professional/ clinical leadership and clinical expertise in the development and sustenance of appropriate and high quality physical health care to our patients. Successful candidates will be expected to contribute to and influence local advances and developments within the physical healthcare arena and lead on the development of physical healthcare training for our inpatient teams across the trust.

The post holder must have excellent communication skills and be able to work collaboratively across boundaries with partner providers of health, social care and education to provide a seamless enhanced approach to physical health and well being. They will need to ensure that the physical health of each patient within our service is identified as a priority and that ward staff are fully equipped to support the needs of patient.

The Physical Healthcare Lead will need to exercise a high degree of personal and professional autonomy, have an ability to reach complex and critical judgements and have decision making skills to satisfy the expectations and demands of the job.

Berrywood Hospital is a purpose built facility that opened in December 2008. There are a range of mental health inpatient services on site including Adult acute, Adult Psychiatric Intensive Care, Older Adult, Forensic and Rehabilitation and Child and Adolescent Mental Health.

The hospital offers modern comfortable accommodation for patients, as well as a pleasant environment for staff to work and carers to visit their family and friends. Harbour Ward is a 12 bed mixed sex psychiatric ward for patients with acute mental health needs. It provides a modern, needs-led service that supports patents in their recovery while in a safe and supportive environment.

Harbour Ward encourages patients to be involved in their care and provides ongoing assessment of their mental state and level of risk; an emphasis is placed on the co-production of care plans. Treatment is provided using a least restrictive approach.

Marina Ward is a 7 bed mixed gender ward for patients with acute mental health needs. It offers inpatient assessment and recovery plans for people who are in an acutely disturbed phase of a serious mental disorder with a corresponding increase in risk, which does not allow their safe and therapeutic management on a general adult psychiatric ward.
